Last weekend I spent a couple days on the island of Crete in the city of Heraklion. I’m finally getting around to sharing some of the many photographs I made while there. I landed at the Heraklion airport a week ago late Sunday morning after flying close to 10 hours. Not knowing if I had to leave the next day I wanted to get a chance to see the Palace of Knossos.
I stayed at the Lato Hotel in Heraklion and it overlooks the harbor and a short walk to the bus station. The bus ride to the palace only took about 15 minutes and if I remember correctly the round trip ticket was less than 5 Euros.
Upon arriving to the palace entrance it was not hard to notice the souvenir shops along the road.
The cost to tour the palace was €6. Since this was a Sunday afternoon I expected more tourists than were there. I was able to capture many photographs of the ruins without people in the picture. I don’t know if that’s ok or not but sometimes I prefer to see significant landmarks without a lot of tourists in the way. Maybe I’m a bit selfish?
It was a great afternoon and was able to spend as much time as needed touring the ruins. The perfect blue sky and warm sun made for a lovely afternoon and a great way to finish a long day.
