Road Trip 2012 | 2012-08-25

Today begins a major road trip/vacation venture for the family.  We had not really planned on this vacation but in the last couple months decided to make it happen.  We leave today for a 9 week venture west of the Rockies.  In the past we’ve planned each day to where we’d stay all the way down to our fuel stops.  It’s not easy sometimes finding a place big enough for us to pull in to fill up as once connected our rig is around 57′ long.  So its normally the noisy busy truck stops where there’s plenty of room to maneuver.

We had originally planned to head up to the Rapid City area to begin our adventure but in the last week have changed direction and are going to visit the Rocky Mountain National Park west of Estes Park, Colorado.  We hope to arrive there this Tuesday for 3 days and 4 nights.  Not sure what will follow next but we may get to Yellowstone a little sooner than originally planned.  Our initial planning for Yellowstone had us arriving there around September 8th.

The locations we plan on hitting during our 9 week trip include along with Yellowstone National Park are the Tetons, Craters of the Moon National Park, Moab area to include Canyonland, Dead horse Point, Arches, then on our return home hit Northern New Mexico/Southern Colorado points of interest.

I’ve also packed my fly fishing gear and hope to get a fly wet a couple times along the way.

The camera bag is packed (tiny in comparison to my past DSLR days) but I have managed to convince myself to bring my tripod and camera release in case I get that Ansel Adams moment.

I will try and do my best to document our trip here daily via my Eye.fi wireless sim card and iPhone using WordPress’s mobile app.
